Peter Curcio

Currently employed as a Consultant for the Department of Justice, Mr. Peter Curcio trains newly appointed federal, state, and local prison wardens for the National Institute of Corrections. Peter Curcio served as a warden at several different facilities of various custody levels and has over two decades of experience with the New York City Department of Correction. Honored by multiple high-level appointments, Peter Curcio most recently served as Bureau Chief of Facility Operations and Bureau Chief of Administration, positions in which he established himself as a natural leader capable of supervising multiple units simultaneously with several large projects. Aside from the normal duties of his posts, Peter Curcio took on many important specialized projects. In 2006, Peter Curcio was the agency-wide World Trade Center Health Coordinator. Having devised and implemented World Trade Center monitoring, tracking, and awareness protocol, Peter Curcio worked to address issues of education, training, and treatment. More recently, Peter Curcio co-authored a complex H1N1 plan that coordinated multiple agencies in awareness, training, and implementation. The Centers for Disease Control assessed Peter Curcio's plan and judged it to be both highly effective and comprehensive. Peter Curcio also played a crucial role at Ground Zero during the September 11 crisis. Leading the response team sent by the New York City Department of Correction, Peter Curcio was in charge of directing 100 people trained in emergency services, communications, fire safety, and supplying provisions. Critical deployment of resources and equipment by the New York City Department of Correction assisted the nation in crisis response at Ground Zero. The agency also had the distinguished honor to maintain physical security for the temporary morgue established at Bellevue Hospital during and after the attacks.
